Fuzzy based Window Detection and Median filter Correction for Impulse Noise Reduction

This paper presents a useful dual stage filter i.e. fuzzy window detection and median filter (FWDM) for the detection and removal of salt-and-pepper noise. Initially, the stage of detection utilizes the corrupted image histogram for the detection of “noisy” pixels, then in the next stage i.e. filtering stage, all the “noisy “pixels will be subjected for further processing while all the “noise-free “pixels are kept and remains unchanged.Then, the fuzzy reasoning is applied to the filtering mechanism to deal with the uncertainty present in the local information which is extracted by the filter. Simulation results show that it outperforms various existing filters in literature for the detection of salt-and-pepper noise.
